SSP’s Standing Committees directly govern most of the programs and activities of the Society. The Committees also advise the Board on matters concerning program policy. Several committees have significant budgetary and financial management responsibilities.

Committee Chair Terms & Responsibilities

The chairs of all SSP Committees are appointed for one-year terms by the SSP President. Committee chairs are eligible for reappointment if desired by the incoming President. As a general rule, no committee chairs should be asked to serve more than three consecutive terms.

The committee chair is responsible to the Board of Directors and will report formally on the committee’s progress and activities by conveying a written report for each Board meeting, or no less than twice per year. The committee chair will also prepare no less than two written reports each year to be conveyed to the membership-at-large through the Society’s full-membership communication vehicles, i.e., the Bulletin or Web site.

Committee Member Terms & Responsibilities

Members of the SSP Committees are appointed by the President, in consultation and with advice and suggestions from the respective committee chairs, for staggered two-year terms. Members may be reappointed for a second two-year term if desired by the incoming President. All members and chairs of SSP committees must be members of SSP in good standing.

Ex Officio members of committees serve one-year terms. Board Liaisons are appointed by the President and serve one-year terms, which may be renewed at the discretion of the incoming President.

If a committee member resigns, the President, in consultation with the committee chair, appoints a replacement. Committee members who repeatedly fail to participate or to perform their committee assignments may be relieved of their appointments by the President upon the recommendation of the committee chair.
