Senior Publications Analyst

American Association for Cancer Research

 

Supports AACR’s Publications Division by performing content research and data mining, data analysis and reporting, and information management. The Analyst works as part of a team comprising scientific editors; editorial, marketing and production staff; and publisher to evaluate and produce content of interest to the professional oncology audience.

 

Responsibilities

Reporting/ Assessment

·         Analyze and document evaluation of current AACR publications products and those of competitors.

·         Determine differentiation among AACR publication products and it competitors.

·         Work with staff to develop and report on bench marks for measures of progress and success.

·         Evaluate the effectiveness of the currents products and process, and identify needed improvement in terms of quality and efficiencies.

·         Prepare competitive analysis (e.g., bibliometric data, funding sources and spends in various areas, pricing, editorial breakdown by topic and content type).

·         Work with scientific staff to determine changes in the scientific fields.

·         Discover gaps in product offerings and audiences associated information needs.

·         Prepare narrative and schematic documents to describe analysis and processes for the department reporting needs including Editorial Board meetings, Editors’ Retreats, and operations manual.

·         Identify and keep up on data sources and tools for intelligence gathering.

 

Product Development/ Strategic Planning

·         Explore ways to enrich the contest organization in response to new technical and user needs.

·         Identify potential new markets for existing products with publications and marketing teams.

·         Contribute toward creating opportunity assessment for new product development

·         Assist with publication strategic planning.

·         Research and report on alternatives to existing standards for journal assessment and ranking within the industry.

·         Assist marketing staff in using bibliometric data effectively in promotions.

 

Qualifications

·         Candidate must have a minimum of five years experience related to data discovery and analysis, preferably with a focus on scientific information management and development.

·         Additional qualifications and competencies are noted below.

·         Excellent analytical skills with ability to asses complex situations and communicate them effectively.

·         Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

·         Experienced in collecting and analysis of data with accomplished experience using ISI’s Web of Science and other tools.

·         Familiarity with scholarly publication process and what makes for a health publication.

·         Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

·         Proficient in use of Microsoft Office; Excel and Access, and familiar with Word, Power Point, and Outlook.

·         Able to work on own initiative.

·         Good time management and organization skills.

 


Education and Training

College degree in biological science, bioinformatics, or library and information science. Master of doctorate degree preferred.
