SSP Awards Annual Meeting Travel Grants to 13 Students and Early-Career Professionals

April 17, 2013SSP is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Travel Grants. In all, 13 people will receive financial support to attend SSP’s 35th Annual Meeting, to be held June 5-7, 2013, at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis in San Francisco, California.

This year there was an enhanced “international” flavor among the recipients, with grants awarded to a representative from a Canadian press, an Iranian educational publisher currently undertaking graduate work in the United States, and applicants from India and Turkey.

Award winners receive free registration at the Annual Meeting, are eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,000 for travel and lodging expenses incurred to attend the meeting, and are awarded complimentary membership for the remaining of the calendar year. Recipients are also paired with an industry mentor to enhance their experience at the meeting.

The travel grant program is just one of the ways in which SSP supports the training and career development of scholarly communication professions while welcoming all members of this community at the SSP Annual Meeting. Applicants were required to be students of publishing and information science or early-career professionals in the first three years of employment in the publishing and information industry.

Special thanks go to this year’s panel of judges, Peggy Glahn, Betsy Solaro, Allyson Mower, and Kayte Bridgewater, as well as William Wakeling, who chaired the committee for this year’s search. The 2013 Travel Grants are made possible by support from the following organizations: Crossref, Inera, Scholarly IQ, Copyright Clearance Center, Rockefeller University Press, and John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
