The Great Race: Reinventing the Media Bicycle (While You Are Riding It)

Keynote Speaker: Rick Joyce, Chief Marketing Officer of The Perseus Books Group

The Perseus Books Group has evolved in a scant 10 years from a small, staid, niche non fiction publisher, to a mini-major and leading service provider, offering consistent innovation to the marketplace and the over 435 independent publishers it serves. In this keynote, CMO Rick Joyce brings insights and lessons from this experience and 25 years on the forefront of digital change in media, including music, newspapers, magazines, trade, educational and university publishing. Joyce, a former partner in media strategy at Accenture, head of Strategy for the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and instigator of the first ever Publishing Hackathon, offers provocative views on how players of any size and position in the ecosystem can innovate successfully.

Rick Joyce is the Chief Marketing Officer for the Perseus Books Group, and has been involved since 2004 in the growth and digital strategies for the company. Rick is one of the co-creators of Constellation, a digital solution for over 400 independent publishers. Rick was the force behind the BEA 2009 experiment known as Book: The Sequel, crashing a book in all formats from the show floor, and the pioneering New York Times Bestseller and transmedia sensation Cathys Book: If Found, Call 650-266-8233. Rick has also been the producer of enhanced books and apps like JFK: 50 Days and Roots: The Enhanced Edition. Prior to Perseus, Rick was a strategy partner at Accenture, working in publishing, music, cable TV, magazines and newspapers for clients like Simon & Schuster, Viacom, Harper Collins, Houghton Mifflin, Tribune Corp, the AAP, Primedia, and Disney. Rick was VP of Strategy and Marketing at ASCAP, and a consultant at Booz Allen & Hamilton in their Media practice.
