Rethinking and Remixing Content

Concurrent 1A: Rethinking and Remixing Content

How the web and technology can help publishers move their businesses forward in the digital marketplace remains an unsettled question.  This session will explore rethinking and remixing content in numerous ways that can be searched, browsed, repackaged and sold to achieve one’s goals.  The thought-provoking panel will try to answer such questions as, how do publishers merge content separated by legacy systems?  How can increased smaller offerings boost discoverability and find new markets?  How to monetize backlists and granular content?  How can publishers compete with free web models and go on the offensive again?  Highlighting examples from the experience of publishers the session will cover fragmenting, bundling, collections, cross-selling, flexible e-commerce, academic adoptions, community networks, SEO, and the ability to provide the right content when, where and how users want it.  By rethinking and remixing assets, publishers can bridge the content divide, experiment with new business models and develop a digital publishing program that is worth more than the sum of its parts.
