AIP Publishing Launches 38 Journals and “Physics Today” on Atypon’s Literatum Platform The New Media-rich, Responsive Scitation.org Website Designed by Atypon

March 21, 2017 – Santa Clara, CA & Melville, NY – Atypon’s Literatum, the industry’s most widely used online publishing platform, now hosts all of AIP Publishing’s journals, the journals of its member societies and publishing partners, and Physics Today, American Institute of Physics’ (AIP) flagship magazine. Atypon’s in-house design team created the relaunched Scitation.org site, which houses all of AIP Publishing’s publications—the most influential news, comment, analysis and research in the physical sciences.

Scitation.org was built and is maintained with Page Builder, Literatum’s easy-to-use website creation tool. Page Builder gives AIP Publishing independent control of the web domain of each member society and publishing partner, and the flexibility to meet the unique needs of each partner’s individuated branding.

Scitation.org houses both scholarly and journalistic content, including the new Physics Today website, with articles and recurring editorial columns enriched by vibrant imagery, high-resolution photos, video, and interactive content. Literatum was integrated with WordPress to enable Physics Today’s online editors to continue to work in their existing authoring environment.

“In addition to an improved user experience for our online readers—with faster access to research and a more modern and intuitive site design—Literatum provides AIP Publishing the flexibility to enhance the brands of our publishing partners,” said John Haynes, AIP Publishing’s Chief Executive Officer. “Iterative search and enhanced navigation give researchers a more productive user experience on any device.”

“Related articles,” “most read,” and “most shared” features are dynamically populated by PageBuilder widgets to target readers with the content most likely to interest them. Curated “editor’s picks” and “featured articles” are also powered by Page Builder. Commenting and one-click social media sharing further increase reader engagement, and searches fueled by a shared taxonomy generate combined results from all of AIP Publishing’s content, including journal and magazine articles, editorials, videos, and images. Hosting multiple content types on a single domain extends site visits and fuels SEO, helping publishers attract new visitors.

Librarians will benefit from simpler and more efficient management of all AIP Publishing holdings, including remote access and usage reports via Literatum.

“We’re proud to host AIP Publishing’s prestigious publications,” said Georgios Papadopoulos, Atypon’s CEO and founder. “The new site designs combined with Literatum’s powerful automation features, fuel an Active Publishing strategy that attracts, engages, and retains readers.”

In total, nearly 1 million articles from 38 journals from AIP Publishing, their member societies and publishing partners are hosted on the new Scitation, including the community leading journals: Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Applied Physics, The Journal of Chemical Physics, and AIP Advances.
