August 5, 2020 – Hanover, PA – The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) has chosen to streamline and optimize the journal production workflow for its flagship publication, The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (AJTMH), by partnering with Sheridan to handle all of its production and online hosting services. Sheridan’s unique offering integrates the production and online hosting stages, eliminating the traditional hand-off between the composition vendor and a third party online hosting platform to further accelerate the publishing process.
The comprehensive 5-year agreement, starting in 2021, includes copyediting, composition, author billing, online hosting, printing, subscriber services, reprints, and content sales. With all services consolidated under one company, with one contract, and one relationship, ASTMH is joining a growing number of association and society publishers who are simplifying supplier management, extricating themselves from coordinating multiple vendors, eliminating the delays associated with vendor hand-offs, and containing costs with Sheridan.
Published monthly, AJTMH is among the top-ranked tropical medicine journals in the world. With internationally distributed authorship, and an emphasis on population, clinical and laboratory science and the application of technology in the fields of tropical medicine, parasitology, immunology, infectious diseases, epidemiology, basic and molecular biology, virology and international medicine, AJTMH is a key resource for the publication of critical research on the COVID-19 pandemic.
Managing Editor of The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Cathi Siegel, commented on the combined services agreement: “We have worked with Sheridan since 2002, but online hosting always required a separate arrangement and a separate contract. Any time we wanted to incorporate something new we would have to coordinate the project and communications between two separate vendors. Starting next year, any time we want to incorporate a change or add a new feature, we’ll call Sheridan and they will work it out internally. This will improve service to our subscribers as well. There will no longer be a gap between subscription services at Sheridan and the hosting platform―Sheridan will be handling both sides of it for our subscribers. During this challenging year, a combined services agreement also allowed us to leverage our full spend on all services to contain costs moving forward.”
Said Mike Hepp, VP and Division Sales Director, Sheridan Journal Services: “The integration of Sheridan’s production and online hosting platforms is enabling us to offer a unique advantage for our clients that combines schedule, quality, and cost enhancements, all while delivering better author and subscriber experiences. We’re confident that these integrations will allow ASTMH to see immediate benefits for their publication and their staff, and that ongoing investments we’re making across all of our platforms and services will continue to deliver efficiencies and advancements for the future.”
Only Sheridan offers journal production services, printing services, and a wholly-owned online hosting platform, enabling the provider to expand its one contract–one company offering to a growing number of association and society publishers.
