Ask the Experts Preview | Data Scientists

In our inaugural Ask the Experts event, happening April 7, 2020, we bring together a panel of data scientists to answer your questions about data science and publishing and what organizations should be doing now to prepare for a data-driven future. This event is FREE but registration is required.

Similar in concept to a focus group but held online, these virtual discussion groups will allow attendees to steer the discussion, asking whatever questions they’d like of our panel of experts. The discussion groups are a great opportunity to learn about an emerging trend in scholarly communication and explore how it can benefit your work.

We are excited to introduce our first-ever “Ask the Experts” event designed to bring together authorities in a particular field or topic to answer questions about the latest developments in scholarly communications.

Data science is everywhere these days but what does that mean for publishing?

Phill Jones (Owner, Principal, Double L Digital) will moderate the event and is joined on the panel by Marietta Damond (Director of Research, AAAS), Ann Michael (Chief Digital Officer, PLOS), and Suja Thomas (Senior Data Scientist, Abt Associates).

Looking ahead to the discussion, here are some resources to provide some background:

A few questions to think about:

  • Where can publishers leverage data science? Where does it make sense within a publishing workflow?
  • Who are the big players in data science? What features or capabilities should we be looking for?
  • Where can data science take publishing? If implemented properly, what kind of benefits could publishers see with data science?
  • How do we prepare? What should publishers do before adopting a data science program? What are some pitfalls to avoid?
