Atypon Acquires Inera, Developer of Editorial and XML Workflow Solutions for Scholarly, Technical, and Legal Publishers

July 18, 2019 – Santa Clara, CA – Atypon, the leading technology provider in scholarly and professional publishing, has acquired Inera, whose suite of editorial and XML solutions transforms publishers’ workflows.

Inera’s eXtyles product family automates the most time-consuming aspects of document production—cleanup, formatting, editing, and conversion to XML—and is a natural complement to Atypon’s growing portfolio of online authoring, discovery, and publishing products.

“Inera and Atypon are well aligned in our missions and products, and we’re truly excited about the opportunities that this acquisition will provide,” said Irina Golfman, Inera’s President and Founder. “Both teams will benefit from collaborating and the cross-pollination of expertise, skills, and technology.”

The Inera team, as part of Atypon, will continue its focus on developing state of the art publishing workflow solutions, including expansion of Inera’s recently introduced technology for fully automated conversion of unstructured Word content to JATS XML.

“Atypon and Inera have great respect for each other’s technologies and industry expertise,” said Marty Picco, Atypon’s General Manager. “This is one of the most exciting times in Atypon’s history, with new acquisitions bringing stellar talent and technologies, like Inera’s, to Atypon for the benefit of publishers.”

In addition to developing world-class software, Inera is actively engaged in advancing publishing through its participation in cross-industry initiatives, professional organizations, and the development of key content standards including JATS, BITS, and STS.

The latest of five acquisitions over the past several years, Inera’s technology will further the development of Atypon’s end-to-end solutions for publishers of all types.
