Brill Set to Publish The Journal of African Archaeology

September 13, 2016 – Leiden (NL) / Boston (USA) / Singapore (SG) – Brill, the international scholarly publisher, adds the Journal of African Archaeology to its growing portfolio in African Studies. Founded by Africa Magna Publishers (Frankfurt/Main, Germany) in 2003, the international peer-reviewed periodical provides scholars with a new pan-African forum for discussing relevant topics on the cultural dynamics of past African societies. The Journal is supplemented by the Journal of African Archaeology Monograph Series, which also transfers to Brill.

Sonja Magnavita, founder and general editor of the Journal of African Archaeology, comments: “The Journal of African Archaeology and its associated monograph series are today amongst the most important academic periodicals for African archaeology. We are looking back on 14 successful years in which the Journal of African Archaeology has continuously grown due to the unremitting support of a global scholarly community interested in the archaeology of the African continent. With Brill taking over these serials from 2017 on, we are glad to have found the ideal publisher for carrying on the journal and the associated book series into a thriving future.”

Joed Elich, Publishing Director at Brill, comments: “The Journal of African Archaeology and the book series are a welcome addition to our extensive program in African Studies. It covers an exciting and growing field. Africa Magna Publishers has done a wonderful job in establishing the journal and series. At Brill we can expand and develop these products further.”

The Journal of African Archaeology will continue under the editorial direction of Sonja Magnavita and Peter Breunig (Goethe University, Frankfurt/Main, Germany). Volume 15 will be published by Brill in 2017 and, together with the back volumes, will be made available through Brill’s Books and Journals platform.
