Don’t Miss Your Opportunity to Shape the 2015 Annual Meeting, “The New Big Picture: Connecting Diverse Perspectives”

The SSP 37th Annual Meeting will be held May 27-29, 2015 in Arlington, VA. We invite you to submit a proposal to organize a session or present by completing the Call for Participation, open now through November 19.

The 2015 conference will focus on the theme and tracks below. We welcome content that fits into these tracks but are also open to creative, non-thematic submissions. We are interested in sessions that benefit attendees by providing practical examples, tips on best practices, and thought-provoking ideas. We encourage proposals from and for all types of publishers: large or small, non-profit or commercial, books or journals, STEM, Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as other stakeholders within scholarly communications.

Please note that any proposal including strong commercial messages to promote one’s organization or services will not be considered as part of the program.

The New Big Picture: Connecting Diverse Perspectives

Publishers, societies, librarians, funders, authors and researchers have all observed our ecosystem evolving in response to changes brought about by new technology, government directives, budget challenges, and user preferences. At the 2015 SSP Annual Meeting, we will step back collectively to examine the ways in which our “big picture” is shifting.

Organizations of all shapes and sizes, regardless of discipline, mission, or products, are experimenting and innovating to develop solutions that will ensure a sustainable future. Sessions at this year’s meeting will focus on connecting these diverse perspectives from within our community so that we can share insights and experiences and learn from each other. This exposure will help us all uncover new ways to innovate, collaborate and define the new big picture together.

Proposed tracks:

  • Marketing/Product Development (innovative strategies, responding to user needs, changing marketplace conditions, maintaining quality, product differentiation/enhancement, creating value, analytics, new markets)
  • Legal/Compliance (mandates, copyright, legal issues/cases, challenges, predatory publishers)
  • Publishing 101 (overviews of key publishing topics designed for participants relatively new to the industry or to their role)
  • Technology (innovations, standards, impact of changing consumer technology, content management, workflow innovation, data management, analytics)
  • Business Models (innovative models, funding challenges, diversification of revenue, sustainability, commoditization of publishing, case studies)
  • Leadership/Management/Career Advancement (methods, case studies, change management, organizational development, fostering innovation, unique aspects of leading and managing publishing organizations, critical skill development)
  • Open Access (developments in OA, solutions/challenges, business models)

Please use this form to submit your ideas, by describing how your session idea aligns with the theme and what benefits it offers the audience.  We have planned for several 45 minute sessions in addition to the usual 90 minute concurrent sessions. Not all tracks may ultimately be included, so please specify if your proposal fits into more than one track.

The organizers of the 25 sessions selected for the final program will be contacted in December to confirm their participation.
