May 24, 2018 – The Coko Foundation team is delighted to announce that we have two new members joining our Advisory Board: Heather Joseph and Tim O’Reilly. As part of our commitment to being community-driven, we have a board of advisors that help inform Coko’s current and future directions.
Heather Joseph is the Executive Director for SPARC, a global coalition committed to making Open the default for research and education. SPARC is a leading international advocate and policy-influencer for effective open access and open science policies and practices. She has served on the Boards of non-profit organizations including the Public Library of Science (PLOS), Duraspace, Arcadia, EIFL, the Center for Open Science and ImpactStory. In 2015, Heather was appointed to the Commerce Data Advisory Council of the United States Department of Commerce.

Tim O’Reilly is is the founder of O’Reilly Media, the company whose books, conferences, and Safari online learning platform have educated generations of technologists in what they need to know to build the future. The company has also been a leader in shaping the way people think about these technologies, framing the big ideas behind the commercialization of the web in the early 90’s, open source software in the late 90’s, Web 2.0 and the Maker movement in the first decade of the new century, and more recently, open government and the “next economy.” In 1998, Tim organized the meeting where the term “open source software” was agreed on—something that’s very near to the heart of Coko. In addition to his role at O’Reilly Media, Tim is a partner at early stage venture firm O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures (OATV) and on the boards of Maker Media, Code for America, PeerJ, Civis Analytics, and PopVox. He is the author of the book WTF? What’s the Future, and Why It’s Up to Us.
