IBS Research Paper Is Topic for 1,000th Research Square Video Byte

Produced to help researchers communicate findings to scientific communities and public

December 8, 2021 – Research Square announces the release of its 1,000th Video Byte, which uses a combination of images, video footage, and music to provide short and accessible synopses of published research findings and how they impact society – all within one minute.

This 1,000th video introduces and explains a published paper titled, “Treating IBS with Cognitive-behavioral Therapy Induces Changes in the Brain-gut-microbiome Axis.” The article was just published in Microbiome, a peer-reviewed journal published by BMC, a part of Springer Nature.

“The microbiome is an exciting and fast moving research field, with findings that impact every aspect of our lives,” said Srimathy Sriskantharajah, Publisher at BioMed Central. “At Microbiome, we wanted to give authors a means to share their findings in an easy and accessible form. Video Bytes do just that, and we have received very positive feedback from our authors about their videos.“

Research Square’s Video Bytes service, launched in August 2018, makes authors’ journal-published research more accessible to colleagues, as well as potential collaborators, funders, and members of the public who are interested in their associated areas of research. The short one-minute video format also helps authors share their videos on social media or upload them to their websites.

Research Square’s internal studies have shown that journal articles accompanied with Video Bytes have yielded 140% higher Altmetric scores, 80% more article views, and 33% higher article rankings than other articles published in the same journals.

“Communicating research clearly and accurately has never been more important,” said Amye Kenall, Vice President for Product and Publishing at Research Square Company.  “Video Bytes are custom created by expert scientific script writers, illustrators, and animators to provide an accurate picture of a researcher’s key findings.”

Research Square’s Video Bytes are prepared and delivered within 10 business days of ordering by a team of expert scientific script writers, illustrators, and animators. The process also includes input and reviews by corresponding authors to ensure accuracy and satisfaction with the final product.

“This video is professionally done, both from an artistic and scientific viewpoint,” said Dr. Emeran A. Mayer, Distinguished Research Professor of Medicine at UCLA’s G. Oppenheimer Center for Neurobiology of Stress & Resilience and corresponding author of the featured Microbiome paper.
