IFIS Launches IFIS Collections on the Silverchair Platform

March 31, 2021 – Charlottesville, VA | Wokingham, UK – Silverchair and IFIS announced today the launch of IFIS Collections on the Silverchair Platform.

These human-curated, sector-specific databases are designed to aid information discovery for food researchers. They provide scientists with a simple and effective way to find the research and information that they need and can trust.

IFIS is launching the service with the Dairy collection. The development roadmap will include collections for additional sectors.

Scientists, students, and information professionals worldwide currently use IFIS’ gold-standard FSTA database. It is the key resource for academics and researchers, searching over sixty years of research and information in the sciences of food and health. Thanks to the Silverchair Platform’s curated collection functionality, IFIS are now able to make this content more accessible than ever before to product developers and scientists in the food industry.

Keywords from the unique FSTA Thesaurus and relevant records from FSTA are carefully selected to construct each collection of abstracts. The records include journals, conference proceedings, book chapters and patents.

The Silverchair Platform has a full search feature set allowing for maximum discoverability. This includes full metadata searching, filtering, linking through authors and journals, date ranges, keyword searching and browsing through categories.

IFIS has also worked with the Copyright Clearance Center to provide full-text functionality directly from each abstract record. This enables users to immediately locate and retrieve the full-text of an article, speeding up the research process. IFIS now also benefits from the ability to create new sites and products as well as manage users and subscriptions through administrative tools.

“We are thrilled to be partnered with IFIS in achieving their goals of widening their market and product offerings,” said Thane Kerner, Silverchair CEO. “IFIS now has the flexibility they need to experiment and grow cost-effectively, all while offering a superior experience to their users.”

“We are delighted to be working with Silverchair” said Jonathan Griffin, Managing Director at IFIS. “We publish the definitive database of information relating to the sciences of food and health. However, we recognize that there are many different user groups for this content. The Silverchair Platform will enable us to better customize FSTA content to meet their needs. Our corporate users have typically come from multi-sector, multi-national companies. We will now be able to develop services for individual sectors and deliver content that is quicker to access and more reliable than from any other source.”
