Platforms or Pipelines? Where is the Value in Scholarly Communications?
In times of ‘Open Access’ and ‘Open Science’, what are the challenges for publishers? Will they become their own platform providers or providers of intelligent and efficient workflows? Or both? The threat of big deals‘ for smaller and specialized publishers? The increasing importance of library consortia and the neglection of collection development. Does ‚Open Access solve the budget problems of libraries and their institutions? The increasing role of APCs (Article Processing Charges). The impact of new and emerging technologies such as Blockchain? The next generation of publishers with diversion and inclusion? What do we need to know?
There are still many open questions and nobody really can predict how the world of scholarly communication and scientific publishing will look like in the years to come. So there is a lot to talk about and we need to share experiences.
The APE 2019 Full Conference Program has been developed by a highly reputed Program Committee, guaranteeing internationality, actuality and topical interests. Chairman of the Program Committee is Robert Campbell. Please have a look at the following pages.
The APE Pre-Conference Day will be organized in cooperation with the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP)
The APE Conferences aim at a better understanding of scholarly communication and the role of information in science, education and society. They encourage the debate about the future of value-added scientific publishing, information dissemination and access to scientific results and offer an independent forum for ‘open minds’. Participants have enjoyed this very open atmosphere in the Academy of Sciences at the famous Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin Mitte.
