Kudos announces integration with Editorial Manager

February 8, 2017 – Kudos (www.growkudos.com), the award-winning service for maximizing the reach and impact of research publications, and Aries Systems, have announced a partnership through which plain language summaries will be captured at the point of submission within Editorial Manager.

Earlier in 2016, Kudos ran a six-month pilot to assess author interest in providing plain language summaries when they submitted their manuscripts online; 45% opted to provide these, helping drive broader readership post-publication through Kudos.

“We can clearly see the benefits that Kudos offers to researchers and publishers to help articles get found, read and cited,” said Richard Wynne, Vice President Sales and Marketing at Aries Systems, “so we wanted to make it as easy as possible for our publisher customers to benefit from this integration. We’ve developed a self-service tool that means a publisher can set up the collection field for themselves without any additional cost or complex programming.”

Policy Press are the first publisher to add this new option as part of their submission process. “We’ve been using Kudos for some time to help our journal authors maximise the impact of their work”, said Julia Mortimer, Assistant Director at Policy Press. “The integration with Editorial Manager makes it even easer for authors to benefit from the tools that Kudos provides by making the first step available to them within their existing workflow.” Julia continued: “set up was really easy – within minutes we were ready to start collecting plain language summaries, which are fed across to Kudos, ready to be promoted on publication.”

“It continues to be our intention to make Kudos tools available to researchers wherever they want to use them,” commented David Sommer, Product Director and Co-founder at Kudos. “This integration with Editorial Manager is part of our ongoing commitment to make it as easy as possible for publishers to support their authors in building an audience for their work. Authors can generate significant usage of their articles when they actively explain and share links through Kudos. If our pilot results are replicated more generally, we can expect to see a significant increase in the number of authors taking a more active role in the copyright-compliant dissemination of their work.”
