Learned Publishing appoints inaugural Student Editor

March 1, 2018 – The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) and the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) are delighted to announce the creation of a new student editor position for their journal, Learned Publishing.

Serving as the inaugural student editor, Charlotte Mauti is a master’s student in publishing at Oxford Brookes University. Charlotte will work closely with the journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Pippa Smart, and North American Editor, Lettie Conrad, in support of our global editorial operations. This appointment marks an important step towards investment in the next generation of publishing professionals,

Working directly with publishing students like Charlotte will both enrich our perspectives of today’s publishing industry and increase diversity within the voice of the journal itself – it’s a great opportunity to learn from each other”, Pippa Smart, Editor-in-Chief (editor@alpsp.org)

This new student editor role formalizes our ongoing connections with higher education and our community’s legacy of mentorship, apprenticeship, and investing in future generations of publishers”, Lettie Conrad, North American Editor (US-editor@alpsp.org).

This is an exciting opportunity I am looking forward to start. Peer review and editing have long been areas in publishing I’ve wanted to pursue. Being a part of ALPSP’s academic scholarly journal will allow me to share and develop new skills in publishing“, Charlotte Mauti, Student Editor.

Learned Publishing is celebrating its 30th birthday this year, and the student editor appointment is one of the developments introduced to celebrate this landmark. Featuring reports on innovations and new initiatives, original research and insights, as well as expert commentary, the journal provides a living record of the revolutionary changes that have rocked publishing. From the advent of digital publishing to disruptive new business models, the journal has always, and continues to, provide evidence that will help everyone involved in scholarly publishing improve practice and inspire innovation.

Learned Publishing is published by Wiley on behalf of the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP). It is published in association with the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP). www.Learned-Publishing.org.
