NIH’s National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Moves Flagship Journal to Atypon’s Literatum Online Publishing Platform

March 7, 2018 – Santa Clara, CA – The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), one of the institutes comprising the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), will move its flagship journal, Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), to Atypon’s Literatum online publishing platform. It will be the first US government publication hosted on Literatum and is the result of a competitive federal bid.

The new publication website, which will be 508-compliant with the US government’s accessibility requirements, will host a podcast library, abstract proceedings, and Chinese language translations of articles that will be discoverable through the site’s search interface. Videos will be added to the site post-launch.

The fully responsive site will be designed by the Atypon Design Studio using UX 3.0, Atypon’s streamlined design-and-build system for modern, consumerized websites. Page Builder, Literatum’s easy-to-use UI and UX design tool, will give the publisher complete control of their site’s look, feel, and content.

“We’re proud to be working with the NIH,” said Georgios Papadopoulos, Atypon’s founder and CEO. “Literatum will bring a feature set and site design that will give EHP the enhanced visibility it deserves and the convenient research experiences its readers expect.”

Currently hosted on WordPress, EHP is a monthly peer-reviewed journal of research and news. With an impact factor of 9.78, it is one of the most highly ranked journals in Toxicology, Public, Environmental and Occupational Health, and Environmental Sciences. Its new continuous publication website will house the journal’s complete archive—45 years worth of back issues.

The project will be funded in whole or in part with Federal funds from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, under Contract No. “HHSN273201800004C.”
