October Issue of Learned Publishing is Now Available

Learned Publishing: Volume 33, No 4, October 2020

The October issue of Learned Publishing is out and bursting at the seams with interesting articles. Reflecting on experiences of early-career stakeholders, Megan Ainsworth from Liverpool University Press, authors this issue’s editorial and champions the need for resilience and change management in our industry. Ainsworth introduces an issue rich with timely topics, including:

Academic responses to COVID-19 – and how publication outputs in the past year compare to those from other global health crises.

Equity in publishing is discussed by Simone Taylor, along with Susan Spilka and others who spoke excellently at the annual ALPSP conference, where they present evidence of our industry’s diversity problems and how these can be remedied.

• The challenges of publishing in “periphery” countries and what we can all learn from them, with studies from Croatia, Vietnam, and Turkey.

• How research performance differs in regional provinces of China, and what disciplines are more or less prevalent in different regions.

• Discussion on publishing studies and how better understanding research and publishing practices are aligned with broader university objectives.

There are also new insights into early career researchers and thoughts on publishing improvements from an editorial perspective. And, don’t miss the article that asserts “we should have listened to Jeffrey Beall from the start.” Happy reading!

Wishing you and yours good health,
