Research Square Expands Its In Review Integration to Nature Research Journals

June 15, 2020 – Durham, NC – Research Square, the author-centric, multidisciplinary preprint platform, in collaboration with Springer Nature, announces the expansion of its In Review service to Nature Research journals. The first titles to benefit from this next phase of the implementation are Nature Communications and Nature Biomedical Engineering with plans to launch the rest over the course of the year.

Amye Kenall, Vice President of Publishing and Product, said, “For us at Research Square this partnership with Nature branded journals represents a turning point—not because of the field-driving discoveries the Nature Research portfolio publishes but because of the power the Nature brand has to create such monumental, critical shifts in early sharing behavior amongst the research community. Our expectations for this partnership go far beyond any one journal or article. We are excited to work with the Nature Research journals team to help them make this happen.”

In Review was the first service in the scholarly publishing industry to enable early sharing and increased transparency in peer review by integrating directly with the journal submission process. The service is currently available to authors submitting to 290 Springer Nature journals and sees a 35% opt-in rate. To date, In Review has allowed more than 28,000 papers to be shared prior to publication in a journal.

“COVID-19 has underscored the importance of preprints for the rapid dissemination of research results” said Rachel Burley, President of Research Square. “Research Square is leading the move to journal integrated preprinting through In Review. Extending this service to Nature Communications and Nature Biomedical Engineering authors who wish to share their research early is the next step in making this valuable service available to all.”

As a mission-driven company, Research Square is committed to making research communication faster, fairer, and more useful. Research Square and Springer Nature are proud to be leading the way in allowing science to be communicated more quickly to the broader public and academic community.
