Society for Scholarly Publishing Partners with Hum To Expand Digital Offerings

SSP selects Hum as their Customer Data Platform, Powering Data-Driven Growth

October 11, 2021 – The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) is pleased to announce a partnership with Hum, a customer data platform purpose-built to help media-rich organizations realize digital transformation. SSP serves its members and audiences in multiple ways, from publishing industry thought leadership to convening in-person and virtual events and providing learning and career advancement opportunities. Together SSP and Hum will build upon existing programs and digital strategies by leveraging Hum’s ability to provide a deep understanding of audience engagement and affinities. This data-powered strategy informs audience growth and engagement through targeted, relevant content delivery to key audience segments across a variety of digital platforms and channels.

In addition to providing SSP with the platform and software to drive these efforts, Hum’s team will be extending the capacity of SSP’s internal marketing and communications team and SSP’s volunteer committees. Together, SSP and Hum’s teams will work to grow membership, further advancement, launch new educational opportunities, and expand career development initiatives. Noting the potential for the partnership, Jake Zarnegar, Hum’s Chief Growth Officer, said, “By adding Hum audience intelligence, SSP can create more personalized experiences and match the right programs and content to the right folks at the right time. We’re eager to help SSP build on their already strong foundation of publishing, networking, and education programming and create even more value for their audience (in which we count ourselves!).”

SSP’s Executive Director, Melanie Dolechek, also sees similar promise and opportunity, “As a small organization with limited bandwidth, we are really excited about the opportunity to aggregate the information from all of our systems into one convenient platform. Our primary goal is to identify the important trends and information that our community is interested in and use that information to deliver targeted content and programs. The aggregate data will inform SSP’s strategy and focus so that we can develop the experiences that our members need and expect.”

About SSP Founded in 1978, SSP is a nonprofit organization formed to promote and advance communication among all sectors of the scholarly publication community through networking, information dissemination, and facilitation of new developments in the field. SSP also runs The Scholarly Kitchen, a content collective sharing thought leadership for the scholarly publishing industry.
