Society for Scholarly Publishing seeks mentors and mentees to participate in Spring 2019 Mentorship Program

The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) is now accepting applications for the next cohort of its Mentorship Program. With the Fall 2018 cohort coming to an end, the SSP Career Development Committee is now seeking potential mentors and mentees to participate in the program for Spring 2019.

This program is ideal for professionals at all career levels to develop new relationships, share experiences, and learn from others outside their organizations by connecting with a mentor. The next cohort will run from March through September 2019, and SSP is accepting applications for mentees and mentors now through February 8th.

“SSP members at all career levels have realized how much they could benefit from having a mentor or being a mentor,” said Melanie Dolechek, Executive Director of SSP. “By developing a formal mentorship program, SSP is helping to shape the future leaders of scholarly communications through expansion of their professional competencies; cultivating a diverse and high-quality pool of candidates in the workforce.”

This exciting initiative aims to connect members of SSP for the purposes of professional development, information exchange, networking, personal growth, and career advancement.

“Imagine that you become 100x smarter and know all insights in the publishing industry—that’s how SSP helped by ideally matching me and my mentor,” said Roman Gurinovich from sci.AI, pilot participant. “The SSP Mentorship Program is one of the most rewarding experiences.”

Accepted applicants will be matched with a mentor/mentee by the Career Development Committee. Mentors and mentees are expected to meet at least once per month for six months in-person, via telephone, or by other virtual means. Mentors and mentees are also required to attend an online orientation and virtual discussion group. There is no cost to apply, but program participants (both mentors and mentees) must be SSP members. Please see the SSP website for more information about how the program works, eligibility requirements, and how to apply to participate in the upcoming cohort.

This program is currently sponsored by Origin Editorial. SSP is seeking additional sponsors for this program. Interested organizations should contact Christina DeRose at partnerships@sspnet.org.
