The American Academy of Pediatrics Launches Unified Publications Platform

Data Conversion Laboratory Converts Pediatric Clinical Medicine Information to Improve Discoverability

November 11, 2021–The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL), an industry leader in structured data and content transformations, today announce the launch of the AAP’s new unified publications site on the Silverchair Platform.

The AAP is the leading publisher of professional, research, and clinical resources for pediatricians and child health professionals. AAP Publications include essential policy manuals, in-depth clinical handbooks, quick reference guides, point-of-care guidance, practice management resources, and parenting books. The AAP also publishes the member news magazine AAP News and five scholarly journals: the flagship Pediatrics, Hospital Pediatrics, Pediatrics in Review, NeoReviews, and AAP Grand Rounds.

The AAP brought all content onto a single platform to provide their audience with a consistent reading and browsing experience. During the migration to Silverchair, DCL analyzed and inventoried all of AAP’s legacy content using Content Clarity, DCL’s toolset for verifying the structure and accuracy of content collections. Having worked with Silverchair customers since 2004, DCL is well versed in the conversion requirements and content structure specifications that ensure AAP content is discoverable and optimized for presentation.

“Publishers like AAP have a wealth of content that goes back many years across many different formats, but these are content gems that are often inaccessible,” explains Mark Gross, President at DCL. “Working with AAP and Silverchair to optimize both legacy and current assets from multiple product lines helps ignite the discovery of these gems through a consistent, configurable, connected, and expandable knowledge platform.”

“Getting all of our content in one place in an updated content structure model was a strategic decision for AAP,” said Mark Grimes, Vice President, Publishing at the American Academy of Pediatrics. “With the latest technology on the most innovative delivery platform, we know that our publications will continue to lead the field of pediatric medicine.”

DCL is a trusted resource to the scholarly publishing industry and provides a range of digital transformation and content structure services. With the latest advances in artificial intelligence and natural language processing, DCL’s services improve content discovery and interoperability.
