Webinar Series Preview | Lots to Look Forward To!

The 2021 Webinar Series will kick off this Thursday, February 18, with David Myers, Senior Publisher at Wolters Kluwer, moderating “Small, but Mighty: The Role of Societies and Smaller Presses in the Scholarly Publishing Environment.” Speakers include Christine Battle, Publisher/Vice President for Scientific Publications, American Association for Cancer Research; Kivmars H. Bowling, Publications Director, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and Mary Rose Muccie, Director, Temple University Press. The webinar will explore the advantages and disadvantages these smaller publishers face, how they evaluate opportunities for partnership, and the challenges of changing business models. There’s still time to register!

Jeff Lang of the American Chemical Society leads the Education Committee’s webinar working group. Jeff explained that “the 2021 Webinar Series is a balance of topics, with some meant to broaden our thinking and others that provide direction for common industry challenges. We will revisit the “Article of the Future” to see how ideas about modern publications have changed and we will share a practical approach to accessibility in scholarly publishing. We will examine the role of small societies and books in the industry today before we contemplate our industry’s broader role in society. And, of course, we will hear insightful discussions from The Scholarly Kitchen Chefs.”
