Going Mobile – Lessons from the Road

Concurrent 1B: Going Mobile – Lessons from the Road

While much is known about how users of mobile devices surf the web, shop, and interact with social media, very little is known about how they interact with the scientific journal literature. Build it and they may refuse to come. Mobile technology implementation must be sensitive to the content, context and communities of readers. In this session, we approach mobile technologies (web and apps) from a critical and evaluative standpoint. We present a framework for evaluating mobile strategies from the publisher’s perspective, highlighting what has worked and what has failed. We present new data on the readership patterns from different mobile devices, and the results of survey data from different user communities. Case studies from clinical and academic journals will also be presented.
