SSP announces highly competitive Fellowship winners for 2020 across publishing, librarianship, and information science.
May 12, 2020 – Mt. Laurel, NJ – The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) has announced that twelve students and early-career professionals have been awarded highly competitive Fellowships for 2020. The Career Development Committee selected these outstanding individuals from a robust applicant pool across publishing, librarianship, and information science. This year’s recipients were chosen based on their high level of engagement in their fields and represent a diverse range of skills in scholarly communications.
Due to the unusual circumstances and the cancellation of the SSP 42nd Annual Meeting, SSP took the opportunity to reconfigure the timeline of the Fellowship Program, so that it now culminates with the Annual Meeting at the end of the Fellowship term. Fellows will spend a year participating in SSP activities and projects, including submitting poster presentations for the 2021 Annual Meeting.
The Fellowship offers a wide range of career development and mentorship opportunities, including year-round training, one-year complimentary SSP membership, free registrations to selected SSP events, an assigned industry expert as a mentor, and participation in community forums and SSP committees.
“The Fellowship Program continues to attract high-quality applicants and has become increasingly competitive,” notes SSP Executive Director, Melanie Dolechek. “Situating Annual Meeting attendance as a capstone experience provides the Fellows a full year to get involved, expand their network, and learn additional skills that will enable them to take full advantage of all that our Annual Meeting has to offer.”

The Fellowship Fund is undergoing a transition and will soon become the Generations Fund, an endowment providing sustainable, long-term support for SSP’s Fellowship and Mentorship programs. Donations will become part of the soon to be announced campaign goal of $500,000 by 2022. The Board is committed to this vision and has voted for SSP to seed the fund with $100,000 in support. The Generations Fund will ensure the next generation of scholarly communications professionals have the tools they need to succeed.
