How to Prepare for an Open Future: Pragmatic Perspectives on Plan S

Wednesday, January 30, 2019
2:00-4:00 pm

Location:
American Association for the Advancement of Science
1200 New York Ave NW | Washington, DC 20005

An open future seems closer than ever before, but no crystal ball can tell us what the next few years will really look like. What can scholarly publishers do to prepare for the future when the ground seems to be constantly shifting under them? Can the research communication community see greater collaboration between publishers, researchers, libraries and funders to facilitate a smoother transition? What can societies do to address upcoming disruptions to their revenue models and operations? How will the changes impact the day-to-day life and careers of publishing staff? Are there opportunities to be leveraged, too? Join your colleagues from the SSP DC community for an open discussion that will focus on pragmatic solutions and ideas to help scholarly publishers navigate these uncharted waters. Our panel discussion will be followed by moderated roundtables, so come prepared to share your own ideas with the community!

Refreshments will be served. If you have extra time, please join us afterwards for an informal happy hour in the neighborhood!
