A major new knowledge hub launched for the orthopaedic community

February 1, 2012 – The British Editorial Society of Bone and Joint Surgery has launched a major initiative for the orthopaedic community – Bone & Joint (www.boneandjoint.org.uk). This new online knowledge hub, developed in partnership with HighWire Press, will offer orthopaedic surgeons and researchers access to a range of specialist tools, services and content, designed to support their education and career progression.The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery has established a world-class reputation through its work with some of the greatest names in the field. By creating the new Bone & Joint portal, the journal is building on its 60-year legacy to provide the orthopaedic community with a host of new tools and services designed to reflect the evolving needs of its authors and readers, and to help them excel in their research and clinical practice.Semantically driven, the portal will make it easier to find relevant research, news and educational resources.

The British Editorial Society of Bone & Joint Surgery, publishers of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (British Volume) announce the launch of Bone & Joint (www.boneandjoint.org.uk) – a major new online resource for the orthopaedic and related communities. Developed in partnership with HighWire Press, this new web portal will offer orthopaedic surgeons and researchers access to a range of specialist tools, services and content, designed to support their education and career progression.

The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (Br) has a world-class reputation for its work with some of the greatest names in the field. As the world around our authors and readers continues to evolve, so do we – building on our legacy to provide the orthopaedic community with a host of new tools and services to help them excel in their research and clinical practice.

“We wanted to provide an easily accessible knowledge hub that supports the working lives of orthopaedic surgeons worldwide,” comments Peter Richardson, the Society’s Managing Director. “We have developed this portal and the new tools and services it offers based on comprehensive research of the orthopaedic community’s needs. Our goals were to use innovative online technology, but make it easy to use.”

Semantically driven, the portal will make it easier to find relevant and trusted research, news and educational resources.

The site will include:

  • A state of the art search engine presenting a specialised taxonomy ensuring easy browsing by topic, subspecialty, media type and semantic linking.
  • Leading publications including our flagship journal JBJS (Br), our new open access journal Bone & Joint Research and our latest bi-monthly orthopaedic digest Bone & Joint360.
  • New specialty channels with commentaries and opinion from respected experts in each subspecialty.
  • Teaching and training support with Exam Corner, CME, Journal club reports and specialty-based summaries.
  • A Multimedia library bringing more instructional content in quick and easy video and audio formats.
  • Author profiling feature helping our authors build their global visibility.
  • Calendar of events highlighting the major international courses, meetings and fellowships by speciality. Users will also soon be able to watch key international congress presentations on our enhanced Orthopaedic Proceedings site.
