SSP’s Annual Meeting offers attendees a strong program full of informational and thought-provoking presentations covering the biggest issues and questions in our industry today. Keynote Speaker

Double Trouble: Inappropriate Image Duplications in Biomedical Publications
Elisabeth Bik, PhD, Science Consultant, Harbors-Bik LLC

Elisabeth Bik, PhD is a Dutch-American microbiologist who has worked for 15 years at Stanford University and two years in industry. Since 2019, she has been a science integrity volunteer and consultant who scans the biomedical literature for images or other data of concern and has reported over 6,000 scientific papers. She can often be found discussing science papers on Twitter at @MicrobiomDigest, writing for her blog ScienceIntegrityDigest, or searching the biomedical literature for inappropriately duplicated or manipulated photographic images and plagiarized text.

This candid discussion will address some of the most exciting opportunities and the greatest challenges shaping the present and future of scholarly communication.

Moderated Debate: Artificial Intelligence will Fatally Undermine the Integrity of Scholarly Publishing

This Oxford-style debate will see two teams debating a resolution related to AI’s role in scholarly publishing, with the winner based on audience votes before and after the debate. Don’t miss this exciting final session where your participation will decide the outcome!

Industry Breakout Sessions Your registration includes additional opportunities to learn about industry challenges and solutions on Wednesday afternoon in these 30-minute sessions. Plan to arrive by noon on May 31 to take advantage of this content provided by industry knowledge experts.

Poster Sessions Posters provide an avenue to share additional content with attendees and lead to more in-depth and interactive information exchanges than is possible in educational sessions. Check out the posters throughout the Annual Meeting and the dedicated poster presentation sessions.

Community Project At this year’s Annual Meeting, SSP is supporting local Portland non-profit Street Books, a bicycle-powered mobile library, serving people who live outside in Portland.

Full Meeting Registration (In-Person) Registration for the SSP Annual Meeting includes general sessions, concurrent educational sessions, Industry Breakout sessions, entry to the Exhibitors Marketplace, breakfasts and lunches on Thursday and Friday, and receptions on Wednesday and Thursday.
