Elsevier, Springer Nature, Cambridge University Press and Copyright Clearance Center join Climate Change Knowledge Cooperative

October 19th, 2021 – Kudos and Impact Science have announced that Elsevier, Springer Nature, Cambridge University Press and CCC (Copyright Clearance Center) have signed up to join the Climate Change Knowledge Cooperative. This important initiative now represents 17 organizations from the scholarly communications sector, working together to make it easy for the general public to find key climate research, and understand its implications and recommendations.

Thea Sherer, Director of Sustainability and Climate Action Officer at Springer Nature, says, “As we approach COP26, there has never been such a vital time to help as many people as possible learn and benefit from the climate research we’ve published. We know that research informs action, and the time to act on climate is now. We’re glad to be part of this joint initiative to encourage engagement with the research of today, for the climate solutions of tomorrow.”

Peter Harrison, Senior VP of Physical Sciences Journals at Elsevier and chair of Elsevier’s Climate Advisory Board, says, “Ensuring that science is communicated effectively and is heard and acted upon by the right people, is one of the greatest challenges facing those working in climate research today. Projects such as this help strengthen the trust between science and society that is needed to successfully take urgent action on climate.”

Hannah Patrick, Interdisciplinary Publishing Manager at Cambridge University Press, says, “Climate change research transcends traditional boundaries, both in terms of academic fields, and in terms of audiences for research. We’re very pleased to be supporting a collaborative initiative that is bringing together key research from a range of subject areas and publishers, and helping the wider audiences to act on the important messages within it.”

Roy Kaufman, Managing Director of Government Relations at CCC, says, “As a bridge between tens of thousands of users and content creators, CCC is continually seeking to improve trustworthy access to sources of validated, quality literature to help solve our planet’s most pressing issues. Participation in the Climate Change Knowledge Co-operative is one part of our ongoing commitment to sustainable development.”

The Cooperative’s flagship content site will go live to coincide with the COP26 conference in October–November. To find out more about including your content, or providing support as an affiliate sponsor, please visit the website or contact Charlie Rapple.
