October 29, 2020 – McLean, VA – GeoScienceWorld (GSW), a nonprofit collaborative and comprehensive online resource for research and communications in the earth sciences, is very pleased to announce the appointment of Phoebe McMellon as the new CEO of GeoScienceWorld effective November 16, 2020.
McMellon is an innovative and results-oriented business leader with over 15 years of experience in managing global teams and working in public, private and non-profit sectors in STM, information management and geoscience-related industries. She comes to GSW after nearly twelve years at Elsevier, most recently as Director, Commercial Strategy, Marketing & Publisher Relations. In addition, she has over ten years’ experience as a geologist with an M.Sc. with First Class Honors in Geology from the University of Canterbury where she was a Fulbright Scholar.
As CEO, McMellon will use her expertise in identifying, structuring and maintaining global collaborations and partnerships to further GSW’s mission to provide leading-edge, scalable solutions and growth opportunities to our industry partners to support their financial sustainability and independence to advance science.

Christopher Straub, chief operating officer, will remain interim CEO until McMellon arrives on November 16.
