Learn from the Experts: SSP Annual Meeting Offers Pre-Meeting Training Seminars

Three 2021 SSP Pre-Meeting Training Seminars are now open for registration! Choose between the comprehensive Books or Journals “Quickstarter” training seminars, led by field experts, or the 2021 SSP Charleston Hub Trendspotting Initiative: Forecasting Changes on the Horizon of Scholarly Communication.

The SSP 43rd Annual Meeting will take place May 24-27, 2021, and the Pre-Meeting Seminars will take place May 18-20, 2021. Registration is now open.

SSP Journals Quickstarter Training Pre-Meeting Seminar

This pre-meeting training session will provide attendees with a complete overview of the academic journals ecosystem, giving them the “quick start” they need to navigate this evolving landscape. The session program is composed of several “modules” touching on all major facets of journals publishing—financial skills and business models; marketing, editorial and production; data and decision making; and the tools and technology of journals publishing—each led by experts in their respective fields. A bonus module will also introduce attendees to digital workflows for both books and journals.

The course has been designed especially for earlier- to mid-career professionals currently working in scholarly publishing and hoping to gain a more rounded perspective on the journals publishing environment. It will also be useful to vendors and librarians who wish to enhance their understanding of journals publishing. Click here for more information and registration.

Charleston Hub Trendspotting Initiative “Forecasting Changes on the Horizon of Scholarly Communication”
Hosted by Against the Grain (ATG) and the Charleston Conference

Futures thinking is not about predicting “the future” but rather considering multiple potential futures and the trends, issues, and external pressures that we could be facing. Thinking through different scenarios helps us prepare for the expected—and the unexpected—for both service continuity and growth.  The Charleston Hub Trendspotting Initiative is a community-engaged process for collaboratively exploring social, policy, economic, technology, and educational trends and forecasting their impacts on scholarly communication, publishing, and academic libraries.

The Charleston Hub Trendspotting Initiative pre-meeting seminar at the SSP 2021 Annual Meeting will present various “provocations” or “what if” scenarios and explore different foreseeable (or unexpected) futures of the industry in small group discussions. Click here for more information and registration.

Registration is now open for the Pre-Meeting Training Seminars. You may register for the Seminars when you register for the SSP Annual Meeting here. Register today!
