Rockefeller University Press Refreshes Journal Websites

September 23, 2016 – The Rockefeller University Press (RUP) is pleased to share the new look of The Journal of Cell Biology (JCB), The Journal of Experimental Medicine (JEM), and The Journal of General Physiology (JGP) with the Society for Scholarly Publishing community. With greater emphasis on enhancing readability on all devices, the new design features a two-column layout that allows for more white space and larger text that is responsive to fit desktop, laptop, tablet, and smartphone browser windows.

“Research doesn’t begin and end solely on a desktop computer,” says RUP Executive Director Susan King, PhD. “A reader may encounter a topic or specific research question, quickly look it up on a mobile device, but might want to delve deeper on a lager screen elsewhere when compiling notes. We wanted readers to experience a clean and simple interface that adapts to their habits, no matter the setting.”

The new design includes tabbed views to help prioritize the most important information for better organization. The same convenient tools are offered, including the figures-only view, related content, featured articles, and recommendations to assist in research. Readers can utilize MathJax to display mathematical equations that renders downloadable MathML as crisp text. The websites are hosted on an ePublishing platform by HighWire Press.

SSP members are encouraged to explore the new websites and send feedback to news@rupress.org.
