SSP Announces Newly-Elected Board Members for 2016-17 Term

The results of the recent election are in! Join us in welcoming the following members to the SSP Board of Directors:

President-Elect

JenniferPesanelli2016Jennifer Pesanelli, Deputy Executive Director for Operations and Director of Publications for the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB). Jennifer directs the publishing operations for The FASEB Journal and oversees the publishing programs of several other scientific societies including supporting them in efforts ranging from vendor selection and contract negotiation to editorial policy and publication business model changes. She currently serves on the SSP Board of Directors, is chair SSP’s Audit Committee, and has participated as a member of the Scholarly Kitchen’s Kitchen Cabinet. Jennifer also previously served on SSP’s Education Committee for five years.

At-Large Board Members

LoriCarlin2016Lori Carlin, Senior Consultant at DeltaThink, where she helps publishers build market strategy, uncover customer insights, improve member engagement, and envision new products/services regularly. Like many others, Lori “fell” into scholarly publishing. With a freshly-inked Theater Degree in hand and bills to pay, she accepted a position with a medical society and never looked back. This continues a long habit of assisting publishers, honed during her 15-year tenure as a Director at AIP. As a volunteer, Lori has served as co-chair of the SSP Marketing Committee (2014-2016) and the Branding Task Force (2015-2016), liaison to the Annual Meeting Committee, committee member for PSP, former member of the UKSG Editorial Board, and has spoken at numerous industry conferences.

DavidCrotty2016David Crotty, David Crotty is the Editorial Director, Journals Policy for Oxford University Press. He oversees journal policy and contributes to strategy across OUP’s journals program, drives technological innovation, serves as an information officer, and manages a suite of research society-owned journals. As a former research scientist, David has been a journal author, reader and peer reviewer, has co-authored a textbook and served as a journal’s Editor-in-Chief. David was elected to the STM Association Board and serves on the Board of Directors for CHOR Inc. David is the Executive Editor of the Society for Scholarly Publishing’s Scholarly Kitchen blog.

AliceMeadows2016Alice Meadows is Director of Community Engagement & Support for ORCID, a nonprofit organization whose vision is a world where all who participate in research and innovation are uniquely identified and connected to their contributions across disciplines, borders, and time. She was originally hired as Director of Communications in May 2015, after eight years at Wiley where she held a variety of marketing and communications roles, including Director of Society Relations and Director of Communications. Alice has many years’ experience working with scholarly societies both at Wiley and, previously, at Blackwell Publishing, and has served on several SSP committees including (currently) the Organizational Collaboration Committee, and is also a member of the SSP Boston Regional Planning group.

These new board members will begin their terms at the end of the 38th Annual Meeting in Vancouver, BC, in June, and join the following 2016-17 Board members:
