Your registration benefits the Generations Fund!
SSP is hosting its 3rd Annual Virtual 5K Run, Walk, and Roll to benefit the Generations Fund. This inclusive event encourages you to complete a 5K course wherever you are and however you can. Like last year, every registrant will receive a commemorative race t-shirt with new colors for 2024! And, thanks to our amazing sponsors, your $35 registration fee will benefit the SSP’s Generation Fund—our effort to permanently endow workforce development and DEIA programs that enhance the future of scholarly communications. We will also recognize you on the Generations Fund supporters list.
Everyone is welcome to participate! Recruit your family, friends, local running group, or social media followers to join you. The more, the merrier—it’s for a great cause, after all! Our virtual 5K also features two prizes for engagement. The company with the most registered runners will receive the GOAT (Greatest of All Teams) Trophy awarded at the SSP Annual Business Meeting in May. And, new this year, the runner who raises the most donations to the Generations Fund is awarded a championship ring at the Annual Business Meeting!
Our official race day is Saturday, June 8. We encourage you to complete your 5K this day and share your results on social media using #SSP5K. But the SSP Virtual 5K is all about inclusivity, including when and how you complete your race! Run, walk, or roll and share results any time after registering and before the official race day.
In mid-to-late April, the race hub will allow participants to access tips from our race ambassadors, see who else is registered and where they are running, and upload race results. Because everyone is completing the race on their course and self-reporting, participants are encouraged to share their results for fun! The SSP Virtual 5K is about community participation and wellness, not competitiveness.
Register by May 15 to make the cut-off deadline to receive a t-shirt before our official race day of June 8, and share your participation on social media using the hashtags #SSP5K.
