Palo Alto, CA – Annual Reviews is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mark Fitzsimmons as Associate Editor-in-Chief. The role – a new addition to the publisher’s executive management team – reflects the organization’s continued growth and increasing commitment to facilitating scholarly progress through product development and innovation.

Annual Reviews’ core goal is to accelerate researchers’ and students’ ability to find and assimilate the knowledge that will drive continued advances. “We take seriously the trust that the community places in our content, and our responsibility to keep evolving the ways that we serve them,” said Annual Reviews’ President and Editor-in-Chief, Samuel Gubins. “Mark’s experience makes him a valuable addition to our team; having celebrated our 80th anniversary this year, we look forward to the contribution he will make as we build toward our centenary, and beyond.”

Now publishing comprehensive reviews in 44 disciplines, creating this new position reflects Annual Reviews’ on-going commitment to advancing the scientific discourse. “It is a privilege to join an organization with an august heritage of publishing timely syntheses of scholarly literature,” Fitzsimmons said. “I look forward to working with talented colleagues who are developing new technologies, including mobile apps, to provide the knowledge that our readers need, delivered the way they need it.”

Dr. Mark Fitzsimmons joins Annual Reviews from the MacArthur Foundation, where he served as Associate Director of the MacArthur Fellows Program. He served two terms as a member on the Board on Life Sciences of the National Research Council (2006-2012). Prior to joining the MacArthur Foundation in 1996, Dr. Fitzsimmons served on the faculty in the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
