DMV Student Journal Symposium for Literary and Research Publications

The DMV Student Journal Symposium for Literary and Research Publications is the first of a proposed annual symposium of undergraduate and graduate student-led journals. This event is a chance for anyone interested in student publications to engage in interactive workshops and roundtable conversations, hear from plenary speakers and student panelists, and connect with fellow university journals in the DC area. We hope to foster conversation on best editorial, leadership, and community practices and discover how to support student publications. Topics will include sustainable leadership, ethics, diversity, and navigating AI in submissions.

The symposium will be held in-person on Friday, April 26, 2024, 1:00-4:30 pm, at the National Churchill Leadership Center, Gelman Library, at the George Washington University’s Foggy Bottom Campus. The event is free; pre-registration is required.

The event’s plenary speakers are Kelley Squazzo, Director of Library and publisher Partnerships at Project Muse at Johns Hopkins University Press, and Swapna Padhye, Publishing Director at Humanities, Social Sciences, Law at Oxford University Press. Student journal panelists participating from GW include The Globe: Undergraduate Research Journal in International Affairs; The GW Undergraduate Law Review; The GW Undergraduate Review, and The GW Journal of Ethics in Publishing. AmLit and The Kogod Sustainability Review from American University, The Amistad from Howard University, and The Catalyst – Undergraduate Bioengineering Journal from the University of Maryland will also be represented in these discussions.
