Have you heard about our 2nd Annual Virtual 5K Run, Walk, and Roll presented by Crossref to benefit the Generations Fund? This inclusive event encourages you to complete a 5K course wherever you are and however you can. Like last year, every registrant receives a commemorative race t-shirt – with new colors for 2023! And, thanks to our amazing sponsors, your $35 registration fee will benefit the SSP’s Generation Fund—our effort to permanently endow workforce development and DEIA programs that enhance the future of scholarly communications. We will also recognize you on the Generations Fund supporters list.
This year’s race features a special team challenge. SSP wants to identify the Greatest Of All Teams – the organization with the most participants in the #SSP5K. Check out the current leaderboard on the official Virtual 5k Race Hub. The organization with the most participants registered by June 1st will receive special recognition onsite at the SSP 45th Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon – including a special GOAT Trophy. The trophy will be on loan for one year, to display in your headquarters. After which, you will either need to defend or give up to the next year’s winning team.
It’s easy to participate in the Team Challenge. The leaderboard is populated as soon as a registration is received. There are no special instructions beyond registering, the team standings are populated based upon SSP’s membership information.
Our official race day is Saturday, June 10. We encourage you to complete your 5K this day and share your results on social media using #SSP5K. But the SSP Virtual 5K is all about inclusivity, and this includes when and how you complete your race! Run, walk, or roll and share results any time after registering and before the official race day.
