The mission of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee is to raise awareness around DEIA issues. We help provide direction to SSP volunteers and members that they can apply to their work. We also champion inclusive practices within SSP and the broader scholarly publishing community.

- Initiated a review of SSP’s web page accessibility
- Participated in the journals academy
- Planned regular C4DISC webinars
- Completed a toolkit to reduce bias in peer review
- Authored several Scholarly Kitchen blog posts
- Supporting the development of an internship program
- Conducting a website audit and supporting ongoing accessibility improvements
- Liaising with the Mental Health Taskforce on upcoming webinar development
Expectations
The full committee meets monthly, and the four subcommittees meet roughly once or once every other month. We look forward to new members joining our committee to help advance this important work!
The DEIA Committee has three main objectives that are supported by our four subcommittees:
- Engage SSP membership to build communities that prioritize and value Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.
- Advance Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in scholarly publishing.
- Support SSP’s strategic goal of embedding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in all the organization does.
